CHINESE NOTE TO BRITAIN

COMPENSATION WANTED FOR

KOWLOON SQUATTERS

NANKING. Jan. 21.-The Chinese Foreign Office presented a Note to the British Embassy here to-night claiming full compensation for the squatters involved in the recent Kowloon rioting and protesting against the British evic- tions.

This was the first mention of compensation made by the Chinese Government in the ex- change of Notes on the Kowloon issue.

The British authorities are keeping separate the Canton and Kowloon issues, but the Chinese Government Note to-day indicated that they would be considered together.

The British Note yesterday claimed full com- pensation for the burning of British buildings at Canton and requested immediate investiga- tions. No mention of this request was made in the Chinese Note to-day.-Reuter.
